What needs to be noted is that nothing really has changed. Same President as yesterday; same Congress, with a Republican House and Democrat Senate. Same looming gridlock, and lack of evident where with all to foster and sustain an economic recovery.
The United States entered the election campaign as an amoral, materialistic society that was short on the resources required to fulfill its collective hedonistic wants. It exited the campaign unchanged. One is reminded of the title of Robert Bork’s book, “Slouching towards Gomorra.” Several states have legalized pot and opted for same sex “marriage.” The slouch, it seems, is not losing momentum.
As I write this, the Dow Jones is down over 250 points. Some folks, it seems, are less than convinced that this has been a good turn of events. One has to wonder: Will the US economy soon kick the Greek economy off the front pages of newspaper finance and business sections?

Thomas Hobbes postulated in Leviathan that a civil war of “all against all” could only be suppressed by a strong central government. A socialist Thugocracy that tacitly approves of the New Black Panther brown shirts is certainly not that variety of strong central government.
We surviving relics of the passing Eurocentric republic truly do seem destined for a life ever more solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short. Who knew we were that close to the edge? It would appear that we’ve just been kicked down the slope.

By the way, PLEASE could you resume your column this side of the ocean….Tuesday mornings were always such a joy, with you at the Telegraph and Govey over at the Times.
Now, instead, we have the pompous, self regarding bore, Oborne and the truly ghastly Mary Riddell at the Telegraph.
