Steynianism 26.0

The greatest evil is not done in those sordid dens of evil that Dickens loved to paint … but is conceived and ordered (moved, seconded, carried and minuted) in clear, carpeted, warmed, well-lighted offices, by quiet men with white collars and cut fingernails and smooth-shaven cheeks who do not need to raise their voices.

Calling All Calgarians!

~ OUT OF THE ECHO CHAMBER: CALGARY— Alan Borovoy, Canada’s best-known civil libertarian, will be in Calgary on January 24 to speak on the key issues facing us as we try to balance free speech and freedom from discrimination. He will be joined by Stephen Ward, Professor of Journalism Ethics at UBC, and Michael Vonn of the B.C. Civil Liberties Association for a panel discussion on “What happened to Freedom of Speech?” Offensive speech: What’s legal? What’s ethical? sponsored by the Sheldon Chumir Foundation for Ethics in Leadership.

It would be nice if we could get someone there to report back; and maybe even to ask Mr. Borovoy what he thinks of the use versus abuse of the HRCs in the Steyn & Levant cases. Thanks, Eileen R.! …. (chumirethicsfoundation)
