The Foundation of Truth & Justice
The undergirding of this or any WebElf blog is love: a good-humoured love of God, truth, and love for the souls of the readers. Despite my sins and failings, I hope to be a servant of heaven, and to ground things in reality; and as a teacher, to point onwards to the truest and best foundations on which we must stand.
The Medieval Latin phrase has it “gratia non tollit naturam, sed perficit“– or, “Grace does not erase nature, but perfects it.”
The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is the very core of history, meaning, and human destiny. Upon them stand Western civilization, and the redeeming and taking up of the best of the ancient world, and redeeming of it into a new shape: the Christian Empire, then Christian Europe, and the Christianization of the world. It’s all a river of light flowing from the broken tomb of Easter Morning. The glory of God is humanity fully alive, via the death & resurrection of the only-begotten Son of God.
That is why Jihadis and militant secularists know they must erase the Gospel, and deface the very foundations of Western civilization by attacking and replacing Christianity with heaven-on-earth, or the Prophet of Allah. They know the real threat and competition.
In that sense, libertarians and leftists are twins, arguing over how much or little government to have, as if that is any kind of solution to the ultimate questions of human freedom and community. The Allahists would destroy all secularity: another simplistic and destructive answer, and an imprisoning of the human spirit. Ultimately for the Christian world, and the Christian West, Easter is OUR answer; the reason for our freedoms and thoughts and cities and homes and selves.
