~ WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE are we raising? What are they teaching in schools these days? Take the roused rabble at the SMU fascist scream-down of a gathering; or the University of Calgary Student Union going all jackboot on their fellow students; or in breaking ugliness, YorkU students getting their jackboots on and going all brownshirt on some Jewish students. WTF?

Back in the day, we were beaten up and beat others up at school; got detentions, punishments, and the rest; snow-ball fights, roughhousing, spankings at home. I remember keeping the younger brother of a bully in a headlock for 15 minutes, because the little twerp thought he could trade in on his big bro’s cred, and intimidate me. We turned out (most of us) not simply despite but because of the reality and consequences.

For the last 20 years, it’s become all about diversity-training, sensitivity, bully-free zones, friendly-words, peer mediation, expulsion for snowballs or name-calling: and so we have spoiled junior tinpot fascists by the time they get to College? What the heck? Is that what our society has taught such kids? That if we are going to have a soft-fascist system, get in on it while the getting’s good?

And go and read Deb Gyapong. This was deliberate. And Porkulus is the result. It’s an economic assault, by unknown assailants. Whodunnit? Says Rep. Paul Kanjorski —

“On Thursday at 11:00 a.m. the Federal Reserve noticed a tremendous draw-down of money market accounts in the U.S., to the tune of $550 billion was being drawn out in the matter of an hour or two. The Treasury opened up its window to help and pumped a $105 billion in the system and quickly realized that they could not stem the tide. We were having an electronic run on the banks. They decided to close the operation, close down the money accounts and announce a guarantee of $250,000 per account so there wouldn’t be further panic out there.

If they had not done that, their estimation is that by 2:00 p.m. that afternoon, $5.5 trillion would have been drawn out of the money market system of the U.S., would have collapsed the entire economy of the U.S., and within 24 hours the world economy would have collapsed. It would have been the end of our economic system and our political system as we know it.”

Plus, our awesomer-than-usual Infidel Prof sends along a screed he flung off to the local Chronicle Herald. Proborts, anti-speechists, and academic drones beware: the truth is offensive.

To the editor:

The Herald is right that the protesters who disrupted Jose Ruba’s presentation at Saint Mary’s University last Thursday (“Protesters denied pro-lifer’s right to free speech,” 10 February 2009) have no regard for freedom of expression and were acting as vigilantes.  But the Herald fails to press the same points against the university.

This is the first paragraph of the university’s press release regarding the incident: “The University remains committed to academic freedom, diversity of opinion, and supports open debate in a forum that does not put the personal safety and rights of our community at risk. There is a balance that must be maintained among all of these.”

This paragraph implies that it is possible in a open debate to put at risk the rights of our community, and this risk has to be balanced against other things.  The university and the protesters are, then, as one in their disdain for freedom of expression.  One of the organizers of the protest has said that to compare abortion to the Holocaust, which indeed is what Mr Ruba did, is to violate people’s human rights.  Now if it is possible in an open debate to put at risk people’s human rights, comparing abortion to the Holocaust seems a good candidate for violating human rights.  The university might well agree with the protesters about both principle and case.

That, then, just leaves the vigilantism of the protesters.  But wait–there’s nothing wrong with preventing a human rights abuse.  To that the university must agree.  So we have good reason to think that the university, in the end, is on side with the protesters all the way down the line.

Preposterous?  Well, it would explain why the presentation was moved off campus and why no protesters within the Saint Mary’s community have even been reprimanded, though they merit expulsion.

Thinking about going to university?  Be careful what permeates the atmosphere of the institutions you consider.

Free Canuckistan has received all sorts of worthwhile info and coverage on the recent Probort shout-down at an Atlantic Canadian University, St. Mary’s in Halifax.

Of note, the politically correct warrior-chants used to try and close down a free gathering of concerned people on an important if controversial issue. As reported by The Atlantic Catholic,

“About a dozen vocal protesters repeatedly accused Ruba, a visible minority, of “hate speech,” sexism and racism.” After some time Ruba resorted to communicating via the overhead projection system where his typed message could be seen. “I can’t be judged to be hateful if I haven’t even spoken,” he writes.

The fascistic tactics of such militant Progs are beyond irony– they view themselves as lonely crusaders for truth, and that the ends justify all means, even if said means are prejudicial, anti-democratic, hateful, and suppressive or real debate and discussion on the issues they supposedly feel so strongly about. It’s political violence, of a sort, and injures civil society, facts and reflection, and is an absolute assumption of rightness and righteousness on the protesters. This is a popular tactic of Jihadists, brownshirts, black shirts, Bolshevik students, ranting 60’s student bullies– not of those who want the free exchange of ideas in pursuit of truth.

So the omnipotentiaries of the University Of Calgary apparently hold the position that “The Canadian Charter Of Rights and Freedoms (the Charter) does not apply to universities.” UofC alum Ezra Levant puts it simply & best: “The University of Calgary is a disgrace”.. and comments ensued. SoCon weighs in here.

While no doubt the above is clueless legalese for “We Don’t Take Kindly To Any Of You Pro-Life Bigots ‘Round Here”, taken logically and morally and legally, it is to descend into utter absurdity.
