(NYT77) HYANNIS, Mass. — May 20, 2008 — KENNEDY-HEALTH-26 — Senator Edward M. Kennedy after attending the funeral of Mary Jo Kopechne, July 22, 1969 in Hyannis, Mass. Kopechne was a former campaign worker for the assassinated U.S. Senator Robert F. Kennedy. Kopechne’s dead body was discovered inside an overturned car belonging to Sen. Kennedy in the channel on Chappaquiddick Island. Sen. Kennedy has a malignant tumor in his brain, his doctors said Tuesday, May 20, 2008 . Tests performed over the weekend at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston indicated that Kennedy, 76, has a type of cancer known as a malignant glioma in the left parietal lobe, the upper left portion of his brain.
