Looking at a partial or even total eclipse can burn your retina badly, leading to scarring or even blindness. Less light during the different phases leads to your pupils dilating, so it’s actually worse than looking at the full sun any other time.
SO: get your Eclipse Glasses (welding goggles are also good).
Or, make a DIY home-viewing box for the kids.
