~ I DEEPLY & TRULY HATE ugly architecture. In a recent video by Amazing Polly in which she discusses a range of topics, about 1/2 way through, she talks about the death of beauty and the kind of architecture inflicted on people by modernist architects. Watch her video first.
A building can inform, delight, ennoble, send a message about goodness, beauty, and truth. Even simply functional buildings can have a touch of whimsy, detail, and design that makes if more than functional. Deliberately ugly, functionalist, offensive modern architecture is meant to desolate the eye, the heart, the mind, and keep us trapped in the here and now, oppressed and oppressing, surrounded by the excretions of our betters.
Anyhow, here’s my comment, following her statement that Canada never had a period of attractive architecture:
I dare to disagree with you, Amazing Polly. Canada had a period of beautiful buildings, circa 1800-1900+. The work of Maritimer William Critchlow Harris, the Ottawa Parliament builders, the Italianate homes , and many of our older pre-20th century church buildings. In some places (here and there in Toronto, more so in smaller & midsized communities) this heritage of lovely banks, public buildings, homes, and churches still exists, though some need TLC & renovation back to their more original design.
Sadly, as you say, brutalist & alien-invasion clever architecture has ruined many bigger communities & downtown cores, and too many architects still seem concerned with making a statement than following any line of truth, beauty & goodness, or even blending their building with the surroundings.
Here in my little town, the local RCMP have moved from a small and not unattractive brick building to a shiny metal, steel, and ominous structure, which is a statement of surveillance and domination, which doesn’t fit the town or setting, and was obviously designed by somebody with skill but little talent.
~ SO I’M BANNED AGAIN– for another month (until May 23) from FaceBook all because I was cranky, and too blunt about muh slims. You know, “Ramadan Enthusiasts”. COFFCOFF.
Anyhow, I just watched a video on the new pro-homosexual EQUALITY UBER ALLES coins for Canada. Yes, “The True North Strong and Free” is becoming a colony of Clown-Land, where everything is bizarre, and nothing is fun.
Ignore the stagnant economy, the border crisis, the collapse of any ethics in Ottawa, the jobs situation, our poor international reputation, the floundering of Canada in the claws of China.. LOOK! GAY COINS! JUSTIN IS BEST GLORIOUS LEADER! FFS.
On the above video, I just commented:
Sadly, we are so far down the road of revolution & unfreedom, most people don’t even recognize it anymore. “Screw who & what you want– but pay your taxes, don’t question your betters, and keep your head down, or else!” Canada is no longer glorious or free, and people like Trudeau & the Canadian elites all the way back to Pearson have gotten us to this sad place.
Wake up. Read up. Pray up. Look after your friends & family. Prepare for terror & disaster, have a good EDC (Every Day Carry, including emergency phone apps).
Watch good vids, and try to wake up people around you. Me, I enjoy videos & articles by Mark Steyn, Vox Day, Joseph Sciambra, Paul Joseph Watson, Acts17Apologetics, Black Pigeon, Jason Bermas, The Amazing Polly. The truth is out there.
Me, I’m not going to handle gay coins, because of the death and suffering that way of life has caused over the past 45 years+ — how many more gay men need to sicken & die before we are allowed to question the sexual revolution’s effects on all of us, society, our kids, and the future?
The herd instinct & fear of being different keep many otherwise good people deep in the cycle of lies, but every little bit helps.
Canada is now Clown-land, people. Evil, demonic psycho-clowns.
~ AS MY FB-JAIL sentence winds down (to be sprung on Good Friday, 10am-ish), I’ve been reading lots of interesting & relevant links on the fire which severely damaged the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris this week. The best links are the topmost. The others are of related interest.
What strikes this elf is how this fire has been so– clarifying. People praying, people stricken– and yet other people rejoicing onsite or online over this. Some witnesses to the fire have been deeply spiritually moved, deciding things about God and life and the crisis in Western civilization, what with de-Christianization, and with enforced mass Muslim immigration, all under the globalist elites like Macron & Trudeau.
However, God cannot be left truly out of the account. I believe that the Holy Spirit is using this– accident? attack?– as a wake-up call to France, to Christians, to the Church & the world, and many who saw the fire. Do we have eyes to see, and ears to hear what God the Holy Spirit is saying?
Also, if I were a bishop or Dean of a Cathedral in the West, I’d be praying & guarding the treasure entrusted to me with eagle eyes right now. Desecration & destruction delights the orcs in our midst, whether imported, or home-grown.
Just because most of us cannot imagine committing such acts does not mean that some could, and would. We cannot be naive about the state of the world, and souls.
~ I WAS IN THE LOCAL ER, in pain & waiting 10 flippin’ hours for tests, when I heard that Notre-Dame de Paris was on fire. Yeah, our Canadian health care system is burning down, too.
Honestly, I just couldn’t think about the fire. This morning, here’s what I commented today on a moving video by the young Canadian vlogger ‘Critical Condition’.
Saith Teh Binks:
“May this loss be a flame in many hearts to remember what we have forgotten, turned from, and assumed would always be with us. Listening to video of certain people cheering with certain words, on the banks of the Seine, makes me furious. Whether Notre Dame was arson or not, other such recent attacks (and murders) in France and around the world by the orcs in our midst, Muslim or secularist, shows the reality of gathering darkness around us– and within us.
Jesus promised us mockery, hatred, and– for some– a cross. He also said “Be of good cheer, for I have overcome the world… Lo, I will be with you always, even unto the end of the age.”
We live 800 years after the building of Paris’ famous cathedral. When France was still Roman, back in the dying days of the Western Empire, 800 years before Notre Dame was even a dream, St. Genevieve of Paris stood against the darkness, against barbarians, against darkness in the world & of the spirit.. when the whole civilized world was literally beginning to collapse.
Yet out of that darkness? Christian Europe, the cathedrals, the monasteries and books and paintings and high culture.
