~ OH DEAR.. A ‘Back In My Day’ post from a 1/2 centarian.
Ah, the olden days! Our songs, our dreams and goals, our minds were pondering life & jobs, but usually with dating, fabulously-haired boyfriend-girlfriend, and marriage as the goal. How different from the West in 2017.
The sexual revolution, broken homes, & feminism & biased divorce law & constant texting– all have made it clear to many younger men that hook-ups are barely worth it; relationships very risky, and marriage a non-starter. Many of these kids come from what we used to call broken homes, now.. uh ‘blended families’ or some such euphemistic lie.
Of my younger son and his immediate circle of 10 friends (18-24), only 1 has a current (short term) girlfriend. Others haven’t even been dating for AGES.. all their female friends or co-workers are just that, minus a hook-up here and there. Not with a bang or a whimper– just a “Meh?”
And their wider generation is very much the same… don’t dismiss this, for the family/ marriage/ kids Titanic is long past the iceberg moment. And babies? You’ll have to import people to have them…. you know, like the Khadrs. Or the welfare-people born in another land.
For a post-feminist Christian take on all this, try Dalrock.
IT STILL SITS as the second highest grossing movie ever: James Cameron’s 1997 Titanic, by James Cameron. $2,186,772,302.00 and change. Not a great flick, but a good one. Personally, I’m just as impressed by the fact of James Cameron’s one-man submarine trip down 7 miles to the bottom of the Marianas Trench…
Our world is the Titanic: and what you think is going on in life or the life of the world depends very much on what part of the voyage you focus on. I explain.
For some, we’re on a journey in a mighty vessel to the new world, just over the horizon. Full speed ahead! What could possibly go wrong? Look.. all the best people are here, and agree with us! Moar caviar!
Not long after, the speeding unsinkable shears off countless cold-brittle rivets on an iceberg. The designers had not imagined such a thing, nor prepared for it. As the bow settles, water will keep moving backwards over the watertight bulkheads, until.. doom.
Me, I’m a “life is bow-settling” guy. Death– the water– is creeping up surely and unavoidably. Order is breaking down, people are scrambling for lifeboats, and while some are going full-panic or full-denial, others are trying to abide by their duty, and to help as much as possible, as the Great Ship Utopia begins to founder in earnest into the icy North Atlantic.
Utopia, Right Ahead!
For many modern day Utopians– this-worldly salvation true-believers– it is in human reach and wisdom to make heaven on earth. Human beings are basically good, and just need enough browbeating, herd-mentality, and extra rules, and we will make a perfect world out of our super-duper selves.
Bizarrely, the very hubris of the modernist movement that built the Titanic and infected politics, and has also infected the Catholic Church. The clueless notion that the 1960s Church would “Listen to the World”, that we needed no redemption just a little buffing, and all would progress together in a la-la-land journey of common purpose and happy thoughts.. the Denial-As-Faith it took place in an actual sinking-Titanic world.
Consider– at the same time as sin and sacrifice and salvation were being thrown overboard, and a mind-boggling naiveté about human goodness and perfectibility was put on the altar, let us remember that the 20th century was the century of blood; of genocides; of industrial slaughter, of two catastrophic world wars with hundreds of millions dead, injured, made refugee.. plus, with technology abroad to have a third and very final War.
Even as the faux-clever theologians and happy-thinking bishops were trying to remake the faith into something unChristian and unrecognizable, the ovens of Auschwitz were not 20 years cold; Soviet Gulags and Chinese death-camps were brimming over; that World War Three had nearly begun a couple years before over Cuba; that despite the rush of technology and Western prosperity, that fallen human nature had not actually changed, and that we needed the Cross of Christ and His risen life more than ever.
Even the ancient pagans knew better: “Those whom the gods would destroy” they warned “they first drive mad.” Denial is a sweet addiction: but reality is always best.
Living In Dreams
As if it were 1905, and a perfect world was just ahead, out went the old religion, the Latin, the rosaries, the relics, the art and architecture: come now the felt banners and camping songs, the puppets & clowns, the moralistic therapeutic deist sermons (with a dash of revolution), of a new and sinless humanity feeling its oats in experiment and innovation and… “Iceberg, right ahead!!”
Mortality? Still with us. Human failing, cruelty, blindness, and evil? Check. Our limitations, blindness, and failed good intentions? Yup. Hurting one another, deliberately and just because? Pretty much. Violence, false belief, unspeakable deeds, a foolish naivete? Mass murder? Warfare? Always & everywhere.
Only, for all these abiding and tragic realities of our bent human nature, progressive religion has no answers, having treated as flotsam and jetsam the faith of our fathers, the wisdom of 20 Christians centuries and 15 Hebrew centuries before that; the riches of Roman Law and Greek philosophy and theatre; and all the good things of Western Civilization. Yard sale.. we have shiny new plastic things!
So the next time some smirking collar tells you all is well, celebrate yourself, God is (only) love, and love is probably God, hug a warm puppy and be happy– realize he’s trying to sell you a berth on the sinking Titanic, has no answers, no salvation to pass on to you, and is not in touch with the Real, or Jesus, or God– nor the reality of life and death and sin.
There’s more wisdom and human feeling and recognition of sin in the following Scouting campfire song than in a modernist post-Christian hymn or sermon.
The Titanic (Husbands And Wives) Camp Song
Oh they built the ship Titanic
To sail the ocean blue
And they thought they had a ship
That the water would never go through;
But the Lord’s Almighty hand
Said that ship would never land,
It was sad when that great ship went down.
Chorus: It was sad. It was sad. It was sad when the great ship went down. (to the bottom of the…) Husbands and wives, Little children lost their lives It was sad when the great ship went down.)
They were off from England
And not very far from shore
When the rich refused
To associate with the poor
So they sent them down below
Where they’d be the first to go
It was sad when that great ship went down.
The boat was about to sink,
And the sides about to burst,
When the captain shouted, “All
Women and children first!”
Oh, the captain tried to wire,
But the wires was on fire,
It was sad when the great ship went down.
Oh, they swung the lifeboats out
O’er the deep and ragin’ sea,
When the band struck up with,
“Nearer My God to Thee.”
Little children wept and cried,
As the waves swept o’er the side,
It was sad when the great ship went down.

~ ITEM:PRIVILEGE AND PREJUDICE: SOCIAL JUSTICE IN AN AGE OF MALE CONFUSION– February 25, 2016 by Loki The Scottish Rapper
This is a brilliant, courageous, truth-speaking essay, and while you will get flak from your own side as a possible heretic, keep speaking, thinking, and looking at reality as you are trying to do.
I don’t fit in many of the modern categories– I’m a vaguely libertarian-ish old-liberal-ish semi-Catholic-ish middle-aged male Christian. Where do we believers fit, except in the categories of ‘old absolutist’, bigot, superstitious, and wrongly maligned as if all Christians are anti-intellectual, creationist, and laughable, and exactly the same? Everywhere, and nowhere– equally oppressed?
Picking A Team
Therefore, looking around the current political battlefields, I find many of the new Atheists interesting, because rigorous, if biased; I find the power-mongering systems-theory irrationalist SJWs cultic and absolutist and moralizers and comment-blockers; and the secular economic capitalist too cruel and immoral; the MGTOW/ PUA/ MRA men’s movement partial and obsessed, if worthy of sympathy; the 3rd wave feminists unreflectively and nastily Marxist, without understanding their own progressivism. Sigh.
Back in the 1980s when I was in university, the politically correct were trying, but failing in their first effort to conquer academia, silence criticism, and make colleges into tribal hooting places, instead of a level playing field for learning, thinking, gaining some grasp on various topics via effort and research, without profs being nasty cheerleaders for this or that propagandistic cartoon of a topic. Yes, there was such a time, even after the irrational rumblings of the 1960s.
The 80s? You talk to all sorts of people to learn what & how they think; you disagree, or even disapprove in some cases, but still have coffee and friendly chit-chat after; you actually try to think both sides of an issue– then you know more than a one-side-only obsessive. You imperfectly use the evidence and reasons and tools you have, without judging someone who differs from you as stupid, or immoral, not entirely human or deserving of respect… or in need of re-education camp.
Enter The Now
Safe-spaces? Tantrums? No-platforming? Really? Monsterizing anybody who disagrees in any speck or word of the current moment of identity politics? Nope. Erasing from our common humanity whole categories of our fellow men and women via class, race, gender, cheap discount Marxism, and right-grabbers, minoritarian cry-bullies and petty tyrants? No way.
Anyhow, sorry for the pontification. Great article. I got here via Sargon of Akkad.
~ WISE WORDS worth pondering, about where we are in 2016, spiritually, and what it all means in the light of Holy Week, Good Friday, and Easter. The article is by commentator and freelance writer (and lucky friend of Binks), Miss Hilary White.
~ ABSOLUTELY TRUE FEMINIST doctrine for the right-thinkers teaches that there is a terrible, horrible, really bad Pay Gap between what men and women are paid over a lifetime, and therefore, in every job, and every wage or salary.
No, I’m not claiming that, 2nd & 3rd Wave Feminits are.
70% less total lifetime earnings? Bad! Must be sexism. Do remember to listen & believe what you are told. Questions might be triggering, and sexist.
And H-e-E-ere We Go!
There are four parts to detonating this claim.
(1) Equal Pay is NOT the same as Lifetime Earnings.
A woman not earning the same total amount over her whole working life may well be paid the same as a man in an equivalent position– but most women work fewer hours, take weekends, holidays, sick days, and family days off. Not to mention maternity leave, ‘Flex-Time’, and sick kid days. Women’s career-tracks & lifetime hours worked are not identical to their male peers in the same positions.
(2) Shockingly, not all jobs PAY the same.
Further, men and women tend to choose different careers, many of which have less pay. Men often choose higher-paying jobs, push for promotions, raises, and are more ambitious– even if they don’t actually like the career. Not every job is the same, nor do all jobs require the same amount of education, effort, expertise, and specialization.
(3) Most people in the same job are USUALLY paid equally.
Looking past the propaganda, in 2016 some women in starting positions will make more than their starting out male counterparts. Paying women 70% as men for identical work is illegal, and– if it were legal– would mean men couldn’t get many jobs, with women as a discount work-force.
But the biggest factor, all other things (and pay) being equal?
(4) Men actually tend to WORK LONGER hours.
One Australian work-study found men worked on average 8.5 hours more than women, per week.* Just a couple of hours a day, and the odd Saturday. Other studies pegged the weekly overtime at about 5.5 hours for men.
Hold onto your hats.. this ‘work longer’ thing is like the exploding value of compound interest. And remember– Binks has Math Dyslexia (on top of a little of the usual kind), so the following is trebly impressive.
By The Numbers
8.5 overtime hours a week. That’s a whopping 10.5 weeks, or 442+ hours of male overtime work per year (or 55.2 x 8 hour overtime workdays/ year).
Such overtime over 10 years? 4420+ hours over a decade (552 x 8 hour overtime workdays/ decade). That’s a crap-ton of overtime– an extra year and a half overtime over a decade (presuming 364 day work-years).
Over a career? The average man will work 17680+ overtime hours, or a full 2210 overtime workdays over 40 years (that’s 6.07 full YEARS— with no weekends or vaycays– of overtime @ 8 hours a day).
The overtime is on top of the 40 hours weekly for 40 years, whatever that is.. lessee.. 2080 regular work-hours/ year, 20800 hours per decade, and 83200 working hours in 40 years.. + the 17680+ overtime = the average man works 100880 total hours (regular + overtime) in a career, versus women working 83200 total hours in a career). Ruh-roh!….
Men’s Overtime Hours?
8.5 hours per week
10.5 weeks per year
1.51 years per decade
6.07 years per 40 year career
Cheer Up, It Gets Worse!
All of this does not include the hours of unpaid overtime that many modern employers are squeezing out of some employees; nor the hideous job-markets and increase in shrunken work hours ‘part-time’ positions with no benefits, pension, or time off. Oh yes, it’s a paradise out there.
“Look at Japan and the “salaryman” attitude. At work 7 days a week for well over 12hrs a day, usually back around midnight, maybe half of Sunday to see your kids, 2 weeks holiday a year but if you ever took them you would be fired.”
Obviously, even more signs of women being oppressed! Patriarchy!
Free & Simple Answers
What is to be done? The present situation cannot continue! Justice! Equalism!
When it comes to winning equal earnings for men and women, no matter what choices or factors or circumstances, the answers are clear. We must obey the feminist logic that men and women must earn exactly the same in their lifetimes of working (presuming we don’t pay the same wages for a paperboy as a brain surgeon).
First of all, in the name of true equality, all women must be forced to work as many regular and overtime hours as men do, and in identical kinds of jobs. No more family time or maternity-leave with that 8.5 hours of overtime a week on top of the usual 40: whiny sick kids must look after themselves.
Nextly, all women will be required by law to take years and years of extra education & special training for more high pressure & higher paying jobs (plus, be forced to take up more dangerous and physically risky careers, to help equally bear the burden of the 90%+ of workplace fatalities happening to men). There’s simply no choice in the matter, I’m afraid.
Thanks, Here’s Your Grave
All must be sacrificed unto mammon, so true earnings-equality can be attained! Men and women must work the same way in the same fields for the same amount of time and thus earn the same! Minor things like choice, ability, gender, personal interests, or individuality? Not so much. The post-industrial mega-state thanks you for your slavery!
Nope, not making this up. See links below for proof. Via.
As you can see, I’m really quite the feminist. So glad to help. ~
* In case someone thinks this is exaggeration, I’m actually low-balling the overtime hours a little. It’s more like +10 hrs/ week in some cases. Even if we went with 5hrs/ week, the overtime amount is still yuge, as the math proves.
~ SO WHERE ARE you from? Part of me is from just around here^. Loch Eil. Corpach (Fort William), Scotland. One part of my family rootage is via a sept (sub-clan) of Clan Cameron (Of Locheil).
Picto-Scoto-Viking-Highlanders, some of my family eventually migrated south to Cowal, then East to Glasgow– possibly in the aftermath of the horrible Highland Clearances, which went on for many decades, first under the English, then under the greedy sheep-loving Lairds.
Somewhere just around the scene at top, my indirect ancestor Black Donald Taylor of the (Lochaber) Axe (or, Taillear Dubh na Tuaighe, 1550-1590) escaped an ambush by warriors of the stinking rat bastards MacIntosh Clan.
This story illustrates the Tàillear Dubh’s prowess and ingenuity in extricating himself from almost certain death at the hands of his sworn enemies, the MacKintoshes.
While out hunting one day, he accidentally fell into the hands of the MacKintoshes. ‘Had I fallen into your hands like this, what would you do with me?’, asked MacKintosh. Donald Tàillear repied, ‘I would at least give you a chance of escaping with your life : and if you could get free I would let you.’
‘Then I will do the same with you : you will not have to say that you outstrip MacKintosh in generosity,’ repied the chief, who thereupon formed his men into a ring with Donald in the centre, giving the order, ‘Men, present your arms, and if he rushes upon you it will but make an end of him all the quicker.’
Donald, after committing himself to God in prayer, exercised his battle-axe, as if with the intention to attempt an opening by which he could effect an escape, threatening to break the circle at various points, saying, ‘Na’n deanainn mar b’àill leam, chuirinn cleith as a’ ghàradh‘ (‘If I could do as I would wish, I would put a stake out the wall’).
After various evolutions and frantic rushes towards different points of the circle – always stopping short, until he convinced them that he thought his efforts were hopeless, and thus threw them off their guard – he at last, after one of these attempts, and while near one side of the ring, made a sudden spring, this time in earnest, and in the act slipped his hand along the haft of his axe to its extreme end, which the rope attached to his wrist enabled him to do, and so, getting a longer reach, the deadly weapon lighted like a flash on the head of one of his captors. A stake did disappear from the wall, and Donald was free from what seemed the arms of death. He then fled as fast as his feet could carry him, pursued by his enraged enemies, the foremost among them being the chief himself who, according to some versions of the tradition, is said to have been on horseback.
At last Donald came to a wide ditch over which he leapt lightly, and got safe across. MacKintosh, leaping after him, fell into the mire. The Tàillear Dubh, raising his axe above the head of his pursuer, addressed the floundering chief, ‘Dh’ fhoadainn, ach cha dean‘ (‘I might, but I will not’). MacKintosh, naturally grateful for the generosity of his foe, waved back his men from the pursuit, when Donald extended to him his hand and pulled him out of the ditch.
The spot where the Tàillear Dubh made his leap was near the present banks of the Caledonian Canal at Gairlochy, and was called ‘Leum an Tàillear‘ [or, Taylor’s Leap]; the ditch, though now filled in, was called ‘Lochan Mhic an tóisich‘ [or, Loch MacIntosh].
~ MATT DRUDGE is The Internet News-Man, and now, he’s making news.
The other day, Mr. Drudge made a bombshell appearance on the Alex Jones show (technically, he was offscreen with a microphone). The global news-sifter has himself become newsworthy by saying what he thinks, what the U.S. elites don’t want you to know or think about– especially in the current election cycle.
Like any good news aggregator, Drudge scans the web and online newspapers and sniffs out the trends, the buried stories, and whatever the sockpuppet media and their political masters don’t want people to ponder– the news which peeps out and then gets spiked, or lost in the newsalanche which surrounds us 24/7.
Listen to the whole interview yourself– it’s news gold– whether you are interested in the American scene or not, it is very interested in us, and will shape our present and future. For example, the giant still-secret Trans Pacific Partnership trade agreement even now being trumpeted by current Prime Minister Harper, and would-be national leader Prince Justin, is a world-sized globalist sovereignty, privacy, copyright & internet control conspiracy, alongside the trade provisions. Shhh.
In any case, the notoriously reclusive Drudge has made national headlines as well as Alex Jones stories galore with this latest interview. The usual Progressive suspects (Salon, HuffPo, Soros’ minions @ Media Matters, and others) immediately started casting aspersions, deflections, and name-calling. Hmm, says Binks (a former [church] news-aggregator)– this must be something worth paying attention to if the Manure-Flinging Hooting Monkey Brigade are hooting and flinging monkey manure.
What Him Say?
* Obama, Hillary, Give Up Your Guns First
* They Are Going To Shut Down Online Free Speech (especially for dissidents)
* The American public is “sick” and easily exploited by homogeneous corporate media
* On the future of digital copyright: “I had a Supreme Court justice tell me to my face it’s over for me. Said, ‘Matt, it’s over for you. They’ve got the votes now to enforce copyright law. You’re out of there. They’re gonna make it so headlines–you can’t even use headlines.’”
* Hillary is old and sick– and the media needs to talk about her lesbian affairs
* Facebook and Twitter are ‘Internet ghettos’ designed to eradicate the open range of independent thought that was once the Internet
* Obama could have easily been impeached following the IRS targeting scandal
A postscript on conspiracy theorists: the biggest conspiracy propagated by behemoth-sized government and our politicians, their media servants, and foisted upon a trusting public, is that there are no conspiracies– Truuuust Uuuuus!— and anyone who says that there is must be a nut, an extremist, and off their meds. I’d reply that “It’s a conspiracy to say there are no conspiracies.” Bam.
Humans constantly conspire– it’s there in the Bible. We talk secretly together, manage affairs and events to their benefit, betray one another, set up ways of getting money, power, things, pleasures, whatever the goal is. Some conspiracies may be good, but most are not. History is largely made up of conspiracies– secrets kept secret by those in power, until their goals are reached or until everybody involved is dead and learning what happened doesn’t matter any more.
After all, many conspiracies turn out to be true. If you dismiss them all, you are not paying attention to history, current affairs, reality, or the way people actually are. Further, you will only understand the surface of things as they are presented to you, and not the deeper inner working of yourself, others, history, and our current life. Having said that, some conspiracies are more about being in love with conspiracies, secret ‘insider’ knowledge, and wearing tinfoil hats.
A Little List
Take a deep breath. Here a few devices and desires of men and women down the centuries.
How about– Central banking as a massive fraudulent conspiracy (including The U.S. Federal Reserve) since the founding of The Bank of England in the late 17th century. The Dreyfus Affair in France. The Mafia in America. The Gunpowder Plot. King David Versus Uriah The Hittite. The 1917 Russian Revolution. The current U.S. proxy-war in Syria. The CIA’s MK-ULTRA mind-control testing on people (which also took place in part at McGill University in Montreal, on Canadian mental patients). Facebook/ Twitter censorship programs. The secret Trans Pacific Partnership trade agreement. Judas Versus Jesus. Area 51, DARPA, and The NSA. The French Revolution. The U.S. Secret Smuggling Ops in Benghazi. The ‘Military Industrial Complex‘ (Eisenhower). The international interest rate & inflation conspiracy. Operation Ajax coup in Iran (1953). The American IRS versus conservatives Conspiracy. The Business Plot against FDR in 1933. The terror-supporting Operation Gladio in Europe. The Tuskeegee Syphilis Experiments on Blacks, 1933-1972. Political assassinations in America. The Iran-Contra-Cocaine Affair. The Gulf Of Tonkin fraud. The 1944 Plot Against Hitler. Operation Snow White— Scientology versus Washington DC, 1970s. Most of what Henry Kissinger ever did. Operation Paperclip ( smuggling Nazi scientists into the U.S. after World War 2). Conspiring in the Bible. Those are just the really big ones. I could write a very very large book.
Of course, the best real conspiracies are the ones we won’t know about until Judgement Day, before the Throne of Almighty God, unto who all hearts be open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid. Gulp. ~
