~ AUTHOR George Blackburn was one of Canada’s finest soldier-journalists. His trilogy about serving in WW2 Canadian artillery reads like a
movie, and grips you in the gut at every point.
In discussing the horrible Canadian trudge to liberate the Netherlands, Blackburn mentions two items which I still think apply to Canadians today.
First, the report from a captured German soldier, who said of the Canadians that they just kept coming, a relentless marching wall of mud & green, no matter what was thrown at them. Get er done. Embrace the suck.

The other notable was an observation from the Canadian side. When facing British or American troops, the feared and fanatical SS always fought until virtually the last man. However, following the mass-murder of captured Canadian troops by the SS, those German units knew that the Canadians would show no mercy.
Thus, when the toughest, best-equipped, most fanatical uber-soldiers of World War Two knew the Canadians were facing them? They ran away, or surrendered en masse.

Or, yesterday, when despite not knowing if there were 2 or 3 or 4 other shooters, and that they themselves might die, Canadian civilians, cops, and military leapt in to do CPR on our fallen soldier, reservist Cpl. Frank Cirillo, and to comfort him as he died.
Or, our Parliament’s Sergeant at Arms Kevin Vickers, who led the charge inside the Capitol buildings, and shot the Islamic terrorist. Given a very little opportunity, many politicians and staffers might well have died yesterday. Not on his watch, nor that of the RCMP, police, and other emergency responders, who ran towards the gunfire, not away.

Old Time Religion
St. Thomas Aquinas and other thinkers of his time were the people who helped articulate the idea that the world (a spehere of activity within God’s active working) had its own laws, means of proceeding, and forms– which, as long as they reflected truth, justice, and goodness– had their own place. Hence saeculo= world, or of the world; or, secular. That’s why we have a world of Roman laws, Greek reason, Judaeo-Christian principles, and pagan weekday names. As St. Thomas put it, “Grace perfects, and does not destroy nature.” If it’s good, then redeem it, and carry on with the work of the Gospel.

Alongside the Jihad-driven bloodshed in Iraq, comes the usual archaeological horrors– destruction of ancient statues, documents, buildings, ruins. Why? Because anything non-Muslim or pre-dating Islam is– according to old Muzzles himself– ‘Of The Time Of Ignorance’. It’s got cooties.

Scottish Muslim? No. You are Scottish, period, or you are fundamentally something else. Jihad in Scotland has been mostly slow, stealth-Jihadish, with a few bigger events and cultural clashes along the way. In England and much of Western Europe, the rot is far more advanced, as decaying Western societies in the 60s and 70s aborted or prevented ever-larger cadres of their own next generations in the name of sexual liberation, feminism, selfishness, social convenience, and social engineering.
The first waves of Muslim immigrants tended to be the well-educated products of British-style education, who understood they were joining another society. Their children, and later waves of less-well educated immigrants have seen their role as to dominate the West by violence, political action, and open Jihad and contempt of what they rightly perceive as a fearful political correctness amongst the ruling and chattering classes.

Running On Fumes
The bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ at the first Easter was and is the spiritual explosion which set Christendom and millions of souls in constructive & redeeming motion, building all the ideas, words, places, and things we now enjoy as their heirs. The power of the living Christ working in and through countless Christians created the wealth, technology, wisdom, learning, medicine, and material comfort and well-being we inherited in the richest, most powerful society on earth, ever.
Sadly, as we slump before our big-screens or beaver away as wage-slaves in a declining Western economy, we doze and whine and live off the fumes of the moral and material inheritance & treasure of the wealthy Christian society which was handed on to us, not as our reward for being so amazing, but rather as a trust, to be improved, used, and handed on to the future generations given to us by God. What was handed to us has been squandered. Even the wealth of the past 500 years has been sunk into debt, deflation, money-printing, and society-wide banking & political fraud.
Can we muster the will to look, learn, and warn, let alone to organize, proclaim, and fight back? I’m going to violate the rules of online argument now: Hitler! Old Adolf knew what he wanted, he told everybody, then he tried to do exactly that. When he first got legitimate political power, he asked for a very little are of concern, which merely allowed him to control the German police. Mostly harmless. All of this BEFORE 1933, and his rise to supreme power as chancellor.
No, this was not a backwater in his socialist master-plan, it was the start of a close-control of the populace, dissidents, making little lists, and getting people used to the idea of a militarized police-force. The Gestapo was created, and the police-forces were quickly filled with Nazis– the police became agents of one political machine, and the uncooperative were retired, fired, or shipped off to special camps, you know, “for their own safety”. Very considerate, that.
Comes The Destructor
Like Adolf, Barack Obama has made it clear what he wants– direct one-party rule, and his personal power superseding all law, Constitution, the Senate-Congress-Courts system of checks and balances, and anything else which he decrees. He was perfectly happy to expand the ‘legal’ powers of his police-state with the power to arrest, detain, and even kill Americans without arrest, warrant, or reasonable suspicion. Under Holder & Napolitano, he has continued the militarization of airports, borders, state and local police forces across America– many now essentially operating with the same equipment and armored vehicles of the U.S. military, except in police blues.
Having been in leadership myself, I know it’s always important not only to look honest and sensible, but to be honest and sensible, and not to pooh-pooh even the potential appearance of a conflict of interest, or the potential of abuse of power and responsibility of office. Sadly, Obama is all about appearances in a superficial way– content to go about his plan, dodging criticism here and theoretically rescinding a blinding obvious possible evil (say, drone-kills of American potential Domestic Terrorists™ like the Tea-Party, libertarians, Occupy, pro-lifers, constitutionalists, religious people, preppers, gun-owners, etc. … you know, normal non-Leftist Americans).
Smells Li-i-ike..
It’s all bullshit, this current push to “homeland security”. Runny, smelly, with flies buzzing around it. Yes, I made a swear.
Why? Because there are already police & emergency responders; beyond that, the State Police, then the FBI, the National Guard; beyond that, the U.S. Armed forces on sea, land, air. That is, if all you are actually concerned about is real threats to actual Americans. We’d all be much “safer” in a nuke-proof bunker with prison-bars.. but it’s not free, or necessary, or good.
You don’t have to sport a tinfoil hat or subscribe to every conspiracy theory to wonder what is going on in Obama’s captive bizarroland, formerly known as the United States of America. Not only that, we have more than enough warnings from history about setting up all the required mechanisms of a police state, making the rise of such a state not only possible, but much more likely. No doubt some alleged “Emergency” will be the pretext for the clampdown, if it comes (and really, it doesn’t matter which Washington DC politician might take the step, the Republicrats are all a blend of grey political sludge). Ideological opponents of the present Regime (a.k.a Domestic Terrorists™) have been under digital, financial, and personal threat for some time– why not move to drones, cops, curfew, and armored force?
Warrants? Habeas corpus? Due process? Timely trials? Bwahahahaha! Luxury!
Blatant Fraud Is Fun!
The best moment [ around 1:25:00 forward ] is when the guy who occasionally marched with Occupy, Massachusetts, points out that the group is pretty much defunct, therefore buying fancy armoured cars to prepare to oppose said Domestic Terrorists™ including Occupy was nonsensical. The scariest & Orwellian moment came when the Town Manager leading the meeting said that he’d talked to some other bureaucrat, and they’d agreed to remove the hair-raising short list of “potential domestic enemies”, so could they just move ahead and buy the armored car anyway?
This is disingenuous. Clearly it’s being sold by Homeland Security on those lines; deleting the scary language doesn’t address the scary fact & idea behind the militarization of local police all across the united States. The Department of Homeland Security apparently considers itself above the law, and above the constitution, and unaccountable to the people.. especially those is chooses to designate Domestic Terrorists™.

Now, as a male, I like stuff, and man-gear, things that go bang, armor, and cool vehicles, and used to love playing army. But this is big-boy time, and the public allowing their police to become potential prison-guards, or putting up with needless SWAT-style raids, check-point, scary drills, and an already renegade government to buy up enough weapons and guns– for domestic use– for what, exactly.. to re-fight D-Day and beyond 5 times over?

Back in the Binks Anglican Blogging Days, I was always surprised (when I checked such things) how many government & military visits I had from the U.S. and Canada– some of it idle, no doubt, but some of it probably higher-ups interested in the variety of news I carried, and keeping up-to-date and stuff.

I got the idea that apparitions or ghostyl assaults would be unpleasant, but (a) Where was God in the flick? and (b) So they kill you. Very sad, but if you love God, it’s not the end, right? It kinda ruined the “ooga-booga!” factor, but it wasn’t a good movie anyway.

We free-bloggers in the West– like the Christians of the West– have not yet begun to really suffer for freedom, or the faith. If such times come, we will have work to do then, as well. And if the whole glorious foolish disgusting world goes down into some fascist/ Caliphate dark age, there will be things to be done there, too.

People Is People
It’s a reminder that despite the propaganda, people are people– and that alleged “liberators” have a variety of motives– some of them black, predictable and deniable under the revolution they are using to excuse themselves. Sin is sin, and denying that basic human reality– that we trespass against God and neighbour, that we fall short for bad reasons, and try to cover it up, forget, or justify it as not being wrong.
The other dirty fact about a lot of radicals– there’s more than a little severe emotional, mental, and personal illness, masquerading as radicalism. Since the Usual Causes allow you to obsess about the sins and failings and blindspots of everybody except yourself and your like-minded mob, there’s a motivation there to go radical, instead of going to the mirror, minding your own business, and removing the timber from your own eye before ranting about the splinter in someone else’s eye.

It is an act of remembrance not to glorify the past, but to ponder, remember, reject, to learn from history.
The Big Lie
The extended miseries and devastation of the English Reformation– an act of erasure, of historical-scale violence, of destruction of churches and art and monasteries and rural life extending over a century, leading to civil war and countless deaths– is still somewhat in a for of verboten, and deliberate forgetting. Anglican historiography from the 16th century created a whole “England as God’s Instrument” which continues to this day– the Winds That Defeated The Armada and all that.
Ruined monasteries may be very evocative and romantic and photogenic, but let’s remember that they were actually centeres of learning, prayer, local industry, economic power outside government and the Big City; wealth not in the hands of the King or Queen. Protestant polemic would have every community of monks and nuns to be brothel-like mobs of slackers, but that’s propaganda, not reality. For every notorious sinner, there were ten ordinary and a few truly amazing people– scholars, preachers, professors, and saints. Many of them received the special attention of the King’s torturers and executioners– as we have seen in the 20th and 21st century, dictators most dislike being shown up for what they are by men and women with the truth and courage on their side.
Behind the propaganda is the big grab by easy-spending Henry– a Billion or so that he quickly frittered away, having impoverished the nation, murdered countless monks and nuns and clergy, and wounded the English Church with an injury which endures to this day. Having decalred most of his people to be traitors, he forced them to become criminals, liars, violaters of conscience, informers, and created a divided English soul.. seen in every city, village, town, and parish church.
Bloody Instruments
Thus, the bloody gallows at Tyburn in London are in fact hallowed by the blood of saints and martyrs to the modern tyrant-state. A Benedictine Convent is there now, for the truth cannot be destroyed– only forgotten. The heroes of the Reformation like Cranmer and others come to be seen in a true light– as willing tools of tyrant-power, aiders and abettors, persecutors, willing to overturn Church and Law and human dignity to destroy England as she had been, according to the bloody will of the Tudor tyrants.
Around the world at this hour, Christians are suffering persecution, torment, destruction of churches, and death for their faith. Just because they are not Westerners should not confuse or distract us; just because the American President is funding many of the persecutors should not deflect us.

If you are a Christian, these are your Christian brothers and sisters– if you and they attain heaven, yo uwill dwell with them forever, with ties stronger than mere earthly flesh and blood; in their suffering, Christ the Lord himself is being persecuted; in their witness, we are being called to do what we can to help them and allow their voices to be heard now and as long as we can.
It will be to the eternal credit of Americans that they did so much and fought so hard against the Armenian Genocides. It will be to the eternal shame and regret of America that she has done so little against the current flood of Christian blood and tears in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. ~

My main objection to his way of looking at world news is.. there’s no mystery-spaces in his world. It all fits together in a big evil systemic puzzle, and God’s providence and the Devil’s malice and the fallibility of people & governments and the possibility of simpler explanations, human stupid, and Shite Just Happens.

On the other hand, big government (suckled by Big taxes) has a much larger scope for fiddling about and doing bad and fooling most of the people most of the time. It gets worse when you have U.S. Governments– especially since WW2– actually plotting, scheming, lying, and doing things to “defend” America– Ewen Cameron & MKUltra; The planned attack on the U.S.S. Liberty; The Patriot Act; the NSA data-mining everybody; the scamming of the last two U.S. elections, covered up by Democrat bureaucrats. And it gets even worse with Obama, since he’s a conspiracy-guy extraordinaire: Fast & Furious.. to influence gun-laws; Loot to Terrorists in Libya, Egypt & Syria (and related cover-ups); the total-surveillance state; the NDAA and “yeah, we can kill Americans if we want”; and on it goes.
Republics & democracies are messy, unstable, complicated, unpredictable, and don’t work well with those of authoritarian bent. You can’t just issue and executive order and get stuff done as you will, when you will. Our life in the West is a limited form of freedom, circumscribed thought & action; mandatory big-tax, and ever-growing government.
Even alleged “opponents” of big government like Canucki PM Stephen Harper has allowed big-gov fungus to grow 14% over the past decade. As I write, 10% of Canadians work for the government, and rule us indirectly though unelected, unaccountable, and generally Left-wing (since Big-Gov is best for bureaucrats). We are a heart-attack or giant political scandal away from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who will do for Canadia what Obama has done for America, and what Liberal Premiers have done for the provinces.

So– beware taking Alex Jones and his like-minded types who “Have It All Figured Out”; at the same time, while checking and considering his news & information as potentially verifiable and important.
When it comes to a police-state, I do think that Europe and North America have a lot of people in power who would be more than glad to lock up society into neat little chains. Lots of people will bend the knee, turn informant, work in the little grey offices, put up the spy-cams, move paper and digital files around, and knock on the door at 2am, and disappear the dissidents.

I must apologize for the recent & relative lack of braining with essays– I’ve been very busy with family stuff, life in general, and braining takes a lot more energy than I currently have. His horrid father, Pierre Elliot Trudeau, dragged Canada into big government, social radicalism, nationalization, multiculturalism, official bilingualism, easy divorce & promoting homosexuality, severe debt-budgeting, and aligning Canada with China, Cuba, and anybody radical he could find.
