But you’ll know them by what they do: so these various assailants are not interested in rights, freedoms, or even, necessarily, the issues they yell most loudly about. We need to support the main targets, keep donating and praying and encouraging. The bad guys (and even the people of good will who just legitimately differ with us) are very patient, and think we’ll lose interest or courage, and just pack up and go away. Bullies In Big-Boy Land

Reporter Paul Willcocks recently covered the Free Speech mess here, and worried there was something of a dogpile going on: the various BCHRCT folks look hapless, indefensible, and– for a certain kind of Canadian fairness– bullied-upon.

Human nature likes conspiracies– as long as we exist, there shall be some who consider themselves wiser and better than everybody els, either in running or exposing the deep dark secrets. I’m concurrently reading two fine books on the same historical period– The Alexiad, by Princess Anna Comnena, and The Normans in Sicily: The Normans in the South 1016-1130 and the Kingdom in the Sun 1130-1194 by John Julius Norwich. In each, we find real and verifiable conspiracies– the constant plotting over who got the Papacy, and the endless schemes and musical-chairs over the throne of Byzantium, or the Eastern Roman Empire.
