~ SO THE OTHER DAY, The She-Binks was out with a friend over tea, and while they were chatting, happened to mention a certain small resort in rural Nova Scotia. She had her smrtphone with her, on the table. She hadn’t googled that place, or anything like: just spoken words.
Two days later, advertising banners for that small resort showed up on her smrtphone. She was underwhelmed. and came to mention the strange occurrence. Somebody had been dropping some eaves.

Lesson? They Are All Listening. Presume so. To EVERYTHING within earshot. To your confessions, married special-time, private business chats, secrets, dinner conversation, family fights. Anywhere these computerized phones are present, BigEar may be listening in.

Smartphones are Smart! S-M-R-T!

Our Electronic Mini-Masters?

I don’t have one– my last was a fancy flip-phone. But I presume my iPad is listening, and her smrtphone, and the two boy’s smrtphones.

Solution? Turning it off and putting it in a metal box might do the trick. Or, one of these cool RFID/ signal blocker cases… or, just not having one. The addictive little things can wreck your brain anyway, as study after study confirms. At very least, break your  smartphone addiction now, so you can have your life & brain back. And those of your loved ones.

Smartphone addiction could be changing your brain

Rats In A Maze

When you think about the brain-effects, spying, and biological effects of smartphone & cellphone technology– and the rising number of cancers which might be linked to their use– it strikes me that this is a giant socio-biological experiment with no permission or parameters, introducing many good and bad factors into daily human life, often from toddler on up. Experiment. Like on rats.

For those of us geezers raised in the pre-smartphone/ social media era, all of this is an add-on technology, which can multiply our existing curiousity, wonder, imagination, habits of being & learning & socializing. It’s a power-tool of sorts.

Quick: Example Us, Binks!

SO, for example– I’m currently reading Nigel Tranter’s Margaret The Queen. When I’m reading a book (dead tree or Kindle), I will constantly be looking up places, definitions, pictures of the places, historical summaries, art, related literature, and other interesting detail to flesh out the book. It becomes three-dimensional learning, based on my older trained & ingrained pre-digital habits.

an-age-by-age-guide-for-when-your-kid-should-get-a-smartphone-1024x576-1520885265

What of the screen-addicted younger people raised in a time who have never known the old ways of curiousity, imagination, extrapolation, a love of learning and the intellect at play? I’m worried that endless music-playlists, SnapChat, InstaGram, flickering bytes and images which go by like dead leaves in a windstorm make it harder to develop those older qualities, which are not simply a “Different” form of intellectual and mental life, but the kind that is thousands of years old, and which built & sustained Western Civilization for thousands of years. Are our kids and grandkids being mentally flickered to death?

Who Did This? Not the Kids

Even if older generations find smartphones are manageable tools, it is  a false logic to assume that people raised on them will turn out likewise. It’s that same thing with TV addiction in my youth: the idiot box ate your time, gave you a lazy brain, and– it turns out– wound up aggression even as kids were passively drooling before the one-eyed God.

Smartphones & digital technology are super-TV on meth & cocaine, doing untold damage all around us, even as we look on, semi-uncomprehendingly. “Kids today”, we moan, forgetting that every society creates exactly the kids it deserves. Think about it. ~

All Shall Be Assimilated!

THE ABOVE is a creepy & loooong commercial on YouTube about some rich Mexican tech-boss, saying that 40 million people in Mexico don’t have the internets.

Mr. Mexi-Tecnho-man visionary states this like internet = clean water, food, a place to live, faith in God.

These poor deprived people are obviously cut off from all goodness. And YouTubes.

When he says the “40 million without” thing, I say “Good for them!” No hate, no fake news, vile and violent images, Candy Crush & Trump lovers & bashers, fads and group-think madness, no portable surveillance and tracking, no unhealthy radiation, no easy government and corporate intrusion into every single life, no internet addiction.

The Wonders of Technolog– Wait…

J.L. Baird with his invention, the 'Televisor'
The Baird ‘Televisor’. View of the Scottish electrical engineer John Logie Baird and his invention, the ‘Televisor’. The televisor was the first commercially available television set. The 30 line, mechanical scanning image did not take up the entire screen, but was in fact only 6cm high and 2cm wide. The televisor allowed enthusiasts to watch periodic broadcasts from the Baird/British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) studios between 1929 and 1932. Baird’s mechanical scanning system was replaced in 1937 by Marconi/EMI’s electrical scanning system. Baird also pioneered colour, stereoscopic and big screen TV, as well as ultra- short-wave transmission. Photographed in 1927.

When naive old Scotsman John Logie Baird finally invented a workable TV, he was certain this was an unlimited good– education and enlightenment for all! Access to the wisdom and truth of the ages! Social mobility for everyone who wanted it!

Baird could not conceive of “The BoobTube”, porn, tv-addiction, shopping channels, bubble-gum sitcoms, 500 channels and almost nothing on.. or perhaps he’d have spent the rest of his days wrecking his and other inventor’s efforts to prevent the mass-media madness he would help unleash into every home, nook, and cranny.

Pimping The Webs

Who is helping sell this to Mexico? CHUBB, the giant U.S. Insurance Company. Go figure. Their utopian spiel?

“40 million people in Mexico are not connected to the Internet. Yet. Altan Redes is working to make that happen. In collaboration with multiple financial partners and the Mexican government, they are building a shared wireless network across the country. This will bring the Internet to people in Mexico who have never been connected before. It will provide endless opportunities for continuing education, economic advancement, and a stronger civil society.”

.. and the sun will be brighter, and the grass greener, and the food tastier, and bunnies and flowers will be breaking out all over. Paging John Logie Baird! “..endless opportunities for continuing education, economic advancement, and a stronger civil society.”

Oh yes, things will be different when the internets swamp Mexico– political dissent, social organization, fighting the news-monopolies, radical activism, along with all the addiction and ugliness which will pour into every home computer and smart-phone eating up billions of hours and souls and minds. And the tender technofascist mercies of Google, FaceBook, and Amazon.

Utopia. An awesome idea.. as long as you leave human nature out of the account. ~

Apple Stole My Button!

~ MORE ENMUZZLING? So what’s the deal? Is AppleCorp helping YouTube muzzle the masses?

In the latest iOS update on the iPad (bought in loving memory of my techie Dad), something went missing which had been there in every single previous operating system I’d used on it. The Youtube “Share With FaceBook” button in the Apple iPad YouTube App. No, seriously.

As all of you who follow Teh Bink’s every word, deed, thought, and passing whim will know, in the cool of the evenings whilst I rest on the fainting couch, I was in the habit of posting a few, nay, even a half-dozen YouTube videos I found interesting, topical, or cool via the iPad.

Then comes the latest update. No button.

Shut Up, They Explained

Sharing awkward information is one of the things the controlling elites hate about social media; GoogleTube is working on hiding news on Las Vegas, Twitter is punishing people by bannings and the like. The news & views sorting-algorithms all tilt hard to the left. The great silencing may be approaching. Only kitty-pictures, fake news, and bad jokes in the new Utopia.

Unlevel-Playing-Field
New Social Media Corporation ‘Level Playing Field’.

Not saying it’s a conspiracy, but such ‘accidental’ censorship is damned weird, and makes no sense. It’s also really inconvenient for people who use Apple for stuff… maybe it’s time for a mini-laptop, where Goog-Apple-Twit-Tube can’t block me from sharing videos– yet.

Or, it could just be more digital global wars… is Google pressing Apple to slight FaceBook, via limiting YouTube on iPads? Might well be.

Anyone else noticed this new ‘feature’?

The Binks
