~ O CANADA.. the land of the clueless and exploitable. We’re fierce in wars in other places.. fighting for ourselves, or at home? Not so much.

We’re the land of peace and good government, of Do What You’re Told unless you want to be in trouble– where we signal at 3AM traffic stops and apologize when people step on our toes. No, really.

Except.. it makes us suckers. Canadians pay more than they should for almost everything– even if it’s produced here, and shipped and sold cheaper elsewhere. Idiot taxes & not-paying-attention-taxes apply.

What’s NOT More Costly?

Books, cars (even cars made here, 10-15%+.. Americans in Hawaii still pay less than Canadians), consumer electronics, cell phones, taxes (42%), prescriptions, food, bus & airfares, clothing, gasoline, tools, hockey tickets, healthcare, internet access & phone plans, alcohol.. we hardly ever ask questions why– even with a 70% Trudeau dollar– things can still be cheaper for us on Amazon, eBay, or with cross-border shopping. If you try and cross-border car-shop? The dealers have been told to chase you away, and the paper-work and fees are crushing.

The grey-market is growing, but boy-oh-boy do Canadians feel dirty and guilty for avoiding taxes and tariffs.

How bad is it under the tax-loving deficit-spending Trudeau 2.0 regime? The middle class now pays more on taxes than we do on food, clothes, and shelter. The TOTAL tax & hidden expenses burden on Canadians is over 70%. How delightful!

Too-Easy Answers

And no, it’s not just the price of doing business in Canada… although many Trudeau 1.0 era (and earlier) tariffs and product-supply “management” on staples such as milk & eggs & wheat & poultry? All adds up to 150-300% prices on such items… we did this to ourselves, as part of protecting our markets from the U.S. behemoth. Plus, it’s a nice monopoly for our own producers, against the public– just like our airline monopoly. Government– 3 times the cost, and 1/3 the service!

canada-scalpel-620x412

Our infamous socialist “Free health care”? Depending on your income, it costs about $12-35K per person. Since the Chretien “balanced budgets” of the early ’90s, when he downloaded healthcare costs to people and provinces as federal “savings”, it’s not even that good, fast, or effective any more. Innovation? Rationing.. and people who can’t even get a doctor aside from the ER.

Screw Us Over! We Love It!

The insane cost of electricity in Ontario? Because the progressives in the Liberal government don’t know how to science, math, or government very well.

Gas prices in Nova Scotia, an oil & gas producing province? Sky-high, because governments are stupid and, again, the Chretien-era agreements basically make us a pipeline to the U.S., with minuscule benefits for the general populace, local economy or workforce or gas-prices. Maybe 2% lower fuel prices, or a cut in provincial gas-taxes? A pay-down on the provincial debt? A provincial rainy-day fund? It is to laugh. AMERICA benefits from OUR exported lower-priced oil and gas.

ns_offshore_ns121

We just accept it. We’re used to being screwed over on prices by governments & taxation, Canadian retailers & producers, and some American retailers. Everybody, basically.

Why do we pay sop much more? Idiot tax. Not Paying Attention Tax. Thoughtless compliance with unjust authority, worst practices, corruption, and outdated money-grabbing policies. Shrug & cough up.

So our economy and tax-burden and debt and deficits and future for our kids is circling the shitter… never mind.. as long as we can get a cool picture with Prince Selfie, we’re awesome!

So saith,

Teh Binks

Rather Nice, Actually

~ SO WHO DOESN’T LIKE the idea of being the big boss? It’s even a kid’s game, as you try to scramble and push to the top of a pile of dirt or snow or whatever: “I’m the king of the castle! / And you’re the dirty rascal!” No doubt Apple has an app for this now, so no kids or risky outdoors activity need be involved.

Actual power– at work, in a family, in business or politics– is a much more difficult balance. Canada– and America under Obama– war us of what power is like when misused by narcissistic bullies, as power OVER, versus duty and responsibility TOWARDS.

n_Khadr-Apology20170704T1430.jpg
There will be no Justin selfie with Omar.

Recently, a Canadian reporter broke the news that Justin Trudeau had decided to cut short a proper court case, and issue an apology and $10.5 million payout to admitted murderer and terrorist Omar Khadr, of the Khadr Terror Family or terrorists and murderers for Islam. The news broke on July 3rd (you’re welcome, America!), and since then the uproar has hardly down-roared.

Survey says… 91% of Tory voters, and even 2/3 or Liberal and NDP voters oppose what Trudeau has done. That’s pretty astonishing, given the ideological differences amongst many Canadians.

The current Ottawa regime has been in full red alert damage control mode since then, but none of the manure they are throwing seems to be sticking to the wall, or calming the country.

And trotting out Ralph Goodale to polish this turd? Sad. Wince-worthy, even. Worse, could this all be hush-money covering another scandal? Time will tell, but Trudeau won’t.. unless forced to.

This Khadr issue is a symptom. No matter if you think Trudeau did the right thing, the larger and nagging question about Canada’s White Obama is getting pretty clear: Shiny Pony Trudeau is not a lover of due process, of moderation, or of duty, responsibility, and deliberation. He’s more of an.. autocrat. The Rule Of One: King Selfie I.

All Shall Obey?

He has spoken– that should be enough. Canada has no core identity. All Liberal political candidates must affirm abortion. I did not elbow that woman in the boobs (OK, sorry, I did), or swear at them. My luxury vacation was not a conflict of interest. I do not break laws, even when it appears I do. The ever-lengthening list is taking the shape of a crown, a divine right of Trudeaus, a halo, an infallible lightness of being.

Such narcissism is always unaccountable, always puts the loyal opposition, critics, or honest questioners in the wrong. The Enemy: you are for him, or against him.

Sadly, studies warn that positions of power attract the sociopaths, the narcissists, the autocrats and users & abusers, whose concerns about absolute power are not that it corrupts absolutely, but that it is rather nice. In America, just-past President Chocolate Jesus and now in Canada Prince Selfie I both seem to be world-class needy & deeply broken people presenting themselves as charming Glorious Leaders who deserve absolute utter unquestioning adoration and obedience.

Such absolute corruption is no solution for politics, but is an abiding problem, and a failing of the power of the vote, when the times, they are foolish and fad-following and OMIGAWD THAT HAIR.

Actual Power Serves

Being unaccountable– downwards, or upwards– is the very shape of dictatorial rule, and taking the place of God. “What I and people who agree with & advise me” taken as the law of the land or the eternal Law Of Heaven is usurpation on both accounts. “Believe it simply on my say-so”? Solid as quicksand.

I have had minor power in the past, and still exercise it as a husband and father and person in the community, and it’s properly not a club to threaten with or abuse, but a crown of humbling thorns, a calling to do the right thing in the changes and chances of this fleeting life, an opportunity and calling to redeem the time, and leave people and the world better than you found it. It’s not all about “Me”.

May God save us from ourselves, from ungodly demigods and autocrats and power-lovers. May he teach all in power to be servants first. +

Dominion Day ’17

Pouring_Rain

~ AS THE RAIN pours showers of blessings on the Eastern part of this Royal Dominion, I cannot but give thanks for this land– though the last 50 years have been sub-optimal under the progressitopian Trudeau Cult.

Above all, in The Year Of Our Lord 2017, Christians in Canada need to pray for our country, for we have wandered into deep and deadly waters of life and death, sin and evil, and our elected officials and robed rulers wish to command that sweet is bitter and bitter is sweet.

This was founded as and is still a Christian land, founded on truth, faith, virtue, and Christian principles– we have no legal fiction of the separation of church and state, as if citizens could somehow divide themselves inwardly to ultimately serve God and Caesar both. Our due earthly obedience has proper limits, which we forget at our eternal peril.

Here we have no abiding city.. but the lines have fallen unto us in pleasant places; indeed, we have a beautiful inheritance (Ps. 16). Thank you, O Lord.

HCD150,

Binks

O Canada! Our home and native land!
True patriot love thou dost in us command.
We see thee rising fair, dear land,
The True North, strong and free;
And stand on guard, O Canada,

We stand on guard for thee.

Refrain

O Canada! O Canada!
O Canada! We stand on guard for thee.
O Canada! We stand on guard for thee.

O Canada! Where pines and maples grow,
Great prairies spread and lordly rivers flow,
How dear to us thy broad domain,
From East to Western Sea;
Thou land of hope for all who toil!
Thou True North, strong and free!
(Refrain)

O Canada! Beneath thy shining skies
May stalwart sons and gentle maidens rise,
To keep thee steadfast through the years,
From East to Western Sea.
Our own beloved native land,
Our True North, strong and free!
(Refrain)

Ruler Supreme, Who hearest humble prayer,
Hold our dominion within Thy loving care.
Help us to find, O God, in Thee,
A lasting, rich reward,
As waiting for the Better Day
We ever stand on guard.
(Refrain)

Amen.
