I Told Ya So.

~ FOOL ME ONCE, shame on you; fool me 18 times, shame on all of us.

Obama’s ‘lack of judgement’ is the excuse even some conservatives are giving for all his creepy, criminal, or uber-ideological choices for cabinet, courts, and otherwise in his administration. Let’s pretend it’s deliberate. If you’re a radical, who do you trust and choose? Exactly.

Obama’s limited intellectual and professional life centres around racist, pro-abort, politically correct, American socialist/ communist people and connections. He worked for ACORN; he chums with terrorists, radicals, and communists; he grew up in the hot-house of the modern American university, where being black makes you better; he sat at the feet of Marshall Davis, William Ayers, Jeremiah Wright, Rashid Khalidi and others to learn his politics and geo-politics. As a modern university student, he’s never had to deal with a a conservative thought, much reality, or notions that work.

So let’s give him the benefit of the doubt, shall we? He’s a scary radical student of scary radical teachers ad he wants a scary radical United States, no matter the cost, because that is the highest and the best he can imagine. It’s not pleasant to face up to, but it seems increasingly likely that what we’re seeing is indeed a full-bore American Devolution which makes Clintonism look like finger-painting time in kindergarten.

That devolutionary comrades– like David F. Hamilton– are up for goodies in the New USSR? It makes perfect sense. ~

Teh Mouldy PoMo

~ ITEM: David Thompson has an interview posted with philosopher Steven Hicks, author of Explaining Postmodernism.

~ I DESPISE mouldy cheese and deliberately decayed foods; I have little use for abstract modern art and architecture; I have no time for the ugliness of clanky, clunky contemporary faux-classical music.

And no,, this is not a plea for black-velvet puppy-poker art, or the wretched neo-Victorian Christian equivalent out of the U.S. by someone like Thomas Kinkade.

It seems to be all about “There’s no ‘There’ there”.. no beauty, no truth, no goodness, no love: or if such exist, we cannot know them. Perhaps such media seek to express our search for meaning and all that, but to me it looks like ugliness become the new beauty, and the academy bloated to become interpreters of the new political arts, and re-interpreters of the art of past eras to suit their agenda, and radical politics.

If truth or beauty is simply in the eye of the beholder (i.e., it’s all in your head), then all is an essentially arbitrary mush of taste and opinion, whether it’s dung-paintings, the Parthenon, a crucifix in piss, or Michaelangelo’s David in Florence, or the glory of a Hubble picture. The sleight of hand by which truth and beauty are made into feelings, private opinions– that there is no ‘There’ there to which the rational soul rightly responds or wrongly misapprehends– is to put the greatest art and music and literature and architecture on the level of whether you like anchovies on your pizza or not, or prefer plaid to stripes.

Almost 2000 years ago, St. Paul told his flocks a simple but important thing:

“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” [Philippians 4:8]

That is, those things exist, are knowable, and livable, and the more you do so, the better you are as a rational soul and human being. Which vision of human nature really lifts us up? our PoMo confidence-trick, or the classical Western, Christian vision of the liberating, ennobling power of truth, beauty, and goodness, in the midst of our dark and confusing times?

Keep your mouldy cheese, ugly buildings, screeching music, and splotches of paint. ~

~ A LOGICAL PALATE-CLEANSER— Here’s a basic matter I’ve mentioned before. Is there an absolute truth, or not? Those who say “There is no absolute truth” are illogical: they are asserting that there it is absolutely true that there is no absolute truth. So at least some things must be true, i.e. that there is at least one thing that is possible true: that it is absolutely true that there is absolute truth.

As to the particulars of what is true or not, let’s just wrap our heads around this basic one over and over, and pass it on to friends. Sadly, this sort of violation of the law of non-contradiction pops up all the time, particularly in service of the revolution. Unquestionable absolutes are the very basis of the probort, pro-gay, prospeech-code, pro-radical education mindset.

What the radical means by dissing absolute truth would have to do with undercutting right & wrong, good and evil as traditionally conceived, since the absolute power of the individual (under the corporatist revolution, of course) is the highest truth.

It’s pretty straightforward, but the advent of identity-politics and political correctness have not eradicated absolute truth, only hidden it behind the curtain. Just ask a student who asks the ‘wrong’ question in class, the professor who teaches the ‘wrong thing’ to students, or the reporter who reports on ‘settled matters’ in the media.

The presumption of this blog– like that of Western Civilization– is that truth is knowable, learnable, public, and not the treasure or preserve of experts or powerbrokers. ~
