~ THE BINKS DOESN’T PRETEND to expertise in politics or economics, but watching the whole American bailout thing, it feels like we’re only the surface of things.. or, a blurry funhouse mirror– at a distance– version of the actual facts.

After deeper reading, I think it’s an American economic coup d’etat underway, with trillions of dollars flying about, countless players involved, any number of versions ‘what’s really going on’ in the media, yet nobody in obvious control.

To be fair to Obama (!), he’s a puppet or hoax or salesman in the midst of his and other people’s machinations. Soros, Wall Street, the internationalists seeking to weaken the United States and create a more centralized Canada-style economy, which can be more closely controlled. There’s a long line of possible usual suspects.

And there’s the rub– in the flurry of news and opinion and crisis and spending, it’s possible to make both something and nothing of the mess. Is there a pattern? What’s the rest of the story? Is it bumbling and schemes and opportunism all together? With so much money flying around, it’s hard to see anything in the storm of zeroes.

What Is Certain

Meanwhile, free market principles, U.S. laws, and democratic government are being trampled by the mafiosi White House and it’s economic panic-specialists– acting like thugs by forcing resignations, threatening little people, and refusing to answer any awkward questions about the details and scope of the whole racket.

Where’s the transparency? Who’s accountable? Why are Americans lying down before this Caesar-cum-lately?

A Trillion Here & There..

Two things are clear– first, that the real cost of all these financial antics is well into the 10+ trillion range ($10, 000, 000, 000, 000.00 plus interest, of course)– unimaginably big money, even for America; second, it’s not all accounted for by any means, and probably never will be, minus the biggest forensic audit in the history of all history, with much of Washington and Wall Street and the bizarrely unfederal ‘Federal Reserve’ crew headed to extended rest-cures at federal prison facilities as a result.

Consider the very strange relationship between America, her institutions, and the unelected, unaccountable, all-powerful private company called ‘Federal Reserve System™’, which considers itself the central bank of the United States, but which is subject to no oversight, audit, or direct political control from the electorate or elected officials of the nation which it purports to serve as a man pillar of the economic system. It’s a private company, with massive powers. It’s as if in Canada we got rid of the government- controlled Bank of Canada and sold most of her essential functions to CanBank– which sounds official, but isn’t.. then that bank came back to government and the economic sector, giving orders and setting policy. The Fed™ is unlike any other national bank, or private company in American history, and should be reintegrated or replaced– both to do things properly and accountably, and to be seen to do so.

It’s All Of Us

The scope and nature of this hijacking should scare and enrage all Americans– even the “O! BAA! MA!” Democrats, prone to “Well, it’s our people doing it, so it’s OK, right?” I think America is being stolen, and the criminals are in plain sight– elected or not– while the crime is in progress. Some sit back in a spirit of greed and/or revenge imagining they will get more goodies from the new Canucki-Eurofied USSA; others, that “This’ll show THEM!”.. the Them™ in question being whoever they imagine deserves such highway robbery– though it is all Americans and the world dependent on her, and the next two generations at least, who are being robbed blind in broad daylight.

Clearly Obama wants a utopia fashioned in the image of what his mentors and hothouse politics have taught him; others seek to punish America; still others to get greater financial control; still others wish for a U.S.A. more in line with U.N. and European goals and practices, in the interests of a global utopia. Oddly enough, my years in the Anglican Wars gave some insight: as a principle, whatever the bellwether radical ecclesiastical elite was on about would invariably become general policy in society within a decade: easier divorce; Marxist politics; slander of opponents; abortionism; sideswiping the old gaurd; environmentalism; Israel & Jew-bashing; gay marriage; the U.N. Millennium Development Goals; whatever comes next.

The feckless ‘progressive’ church bunnies– apparently so uncertain about their own proper business, and God’s Word to the world– have very little trouble pontificating with a high degree of certainty on matters of composting, sodomy, banning bottled water, and reapportioning a certain percentage of national incomes to Make The World A Better Place.. as the utopiweenies and diplomats of Turtle Bay define it, and according to the canons of international political correctness. That’s a.k.a. pouring endless money into Africa and the ‘third world’, into U.N. coffers, and into non-governmental busy-body organizations.

Roman orator and lawyer Marcus Tullius Cicero asked in Rome long ago, “Cui bono?“.. who benefits? Wh could wish for this alleged American meltdown? To whose good and profit does such a pattern of events tend, aside from the obvious? We’ve had a good 9 months and more of hullaballooing and running about and panic-noises from various players from Bush to Obama to Swine Flu doomsayers: what are they distracting us from? What aren’t we supposed to be looking at or putting together? What news or analysis would the crisis-mongers rather we not ponder and have in view? Where’s the busy silence?

It’s a bit like a parish, or having kids– silence does not always mean all is calm, all is bright: rather, that there’s a great deal going on, but you’re not supposed to know about it. Our restless human nature– on the small or large scale– is twitchy and prone to meddling and badness: once you admit that, it’s easy enough to guess and imagine what folk might be up to. So the Binklings are still astonished that their parents seem to have some magical radar by which their thoughts and deeds are visible at long range. Not really: it’s just that we’re human, fellow sinners, and in some cases, ‘been there, done that’, a few decades ago.

My sense is that we’re all being scammed and conned in the American drama still unfolding with the bailout bill, bloaterrific budget, and all the stuff we’re only glimpsing behind the scenes– we’re in the midst of a very high-stakes gamble of some sort– but I leave it up to wiser heads to discern why, how, and by whom, to what purpose.

If I had all the answers, I’d either be able to make a killing in the stock market, or be unwillingly fitted for a free pair of concrete boots for midnight swimming-time. Any and all comments or details as you see them on this one are most welcome, because I confess myself to be sitting in front of a 10 000 piece jigsaw puzzle of a polar bear in a blizzard in trying to get this mess sorted out and put together. ~

~ HERE AT FREE MARK STEYN we’re still waiting for the human rights complaint. After all, we’ve posted several times the exact wording of the unspeakable Rev. Stephen Boissoin’s horrible possibly riot-causing screed about gay marriage. Potential blood could still be flowing in the theoretical streets. The horror.. the horror.

Nothing so far.

Now, those who notice such things tell us the CHRC are visiting here, like the rest of you, for super-fine news-aggregating goodness– who can blame them?– and yet.. where’s the complaint, for reprinting something so allegedly hateful that the government of Alberta felt it had the right to tell a pastor to shut up forever– in public and private– on the topic? Did it stop being hateful, somehow? Only in Alberta, you say?

On this blog I also tend to mock Jews, the handicapped and elderly, and have uncomplimentary things to say about the same-sex political agenda, Obama, Muhammed, and radical Islam. Still no nibbles from the hate-cops. The fact that I have some Jewish ancestry and friends, or that I spent some time in my vocation caring for the elderly and the handicapped should make no difference to my infringements of human rights; nor that I have had Muslim friends and friends who said they were homosexual. Why?

Remember: under the HRCs, truth is not a defence, nor are you presumed innocent until proven guilty. If what you say might theoretically someday somewhere ever offend or otherwise effect somebody– even if they are not part of some politically offendable group– then you are already a pre-criminal hatemonger ready to blow, and bring about a veritable Fourth Reich in dear old mild-mannered Canada.

It’s to do with equality before the law. If some blogging shlub who knows Ezra and Mark and who looks likely to be all uppity scares off the thought police, what of the ordinary folk? It’s the same with our rationed health-care in the great White Canucki Paradise: the squeaky and/ or important wheels get the medical grease, and the quiet or ordinary folk get leftovers and waiting lists and funerals. Alberta Pastor Boissoin gets speech-bans, while visible and vocal Albertan Bp. Fred Henry gets a dismissal.

If all are not equal before the law, then none are. If it’s not justice for all, then it’s justice for none. And this thanks to our overweening, overreaching, overstaffed and overfunded ‘human rights’ apparatus and apparatchiks.

Fire them all. Repeal Section 13, and redo the entire code and bureacracy. Let Canadians be Canadians, and not alleged hateful lunatics, or accumulators and squeakers after more rights than their fellow citizens, by virtue of some ‘minority’ status, or political power. Use the law to prosecute true criminals, and leave the rest alone.

Either charge this blog for hate-speech, or shut down your kangaroo-courts forever, O ye petty-tyrants. ~

At The Movies

~ HAVING JUST REWATCHED the movie ‘Master & Commander‘ (in very pretty HD), I won’t go a Trekkie-nerd on the plot or even the battle-details (point-blank range to start Nelsonian naval battle? Oh, really?!? And here we thought 18-pounders could start hitting at a mile’s distance). The one failing which did bother this viewer & fan of the novels was the casting for Aubrey & Maturin.

Russell Crowe is fine in his way, and very action-y and rough; and Paul Bettany as Maturin did his best, but it felt all wrong. For those lucky enough to have seen HBO’s very fine mini-series John Adams, the books depict Captain Aubrey on the large human scale of George Washington [by David Morse — or 6’2″, 250 lbs.], and his particular friend Dr. Maturin as rather John Adams-y height [ brilliantly depicted by Paul Giamatti ], except thinner and more disagreeable.

Size matters in some respects– it’s why the often undersized scale of so many Hollywood actors often takes us by surprise. General and later President Washington could not have commanded such sheer respect had he been another smallish 5’6″ Napoleon– who, unlike the Little Emperor, did not have secret police and informers everywhere to cow people into obedience. It’s a double-dose if the size is complimented by an inner greatness, as if the interior man was manifest outwardly. As Aubrey, Crowe had enough of the inner man down pat, but it still jarred too much.

I’m sure someone else out there has a suggestion of better possible actors for the main two– but other than that, the movies were the very best we might expect out of the Hollywood process in such a case. ~
