~ IT’S BRIGHT TIME! — Like Christmas, Easter is more than a chocolate-hazy day– it’s an extended celebration, a state of soul, a holy season of the church. The Orthodox Church has the delightfully-named ‘Bright Week‘ after their amazing marathon Pascha & Feast vigil– Bright Monday, Bright Tuesday, and so on.
After all, the incarnation of the Son of God in time and space changes everything. The Resurrection on Sunday means that it’s a New Day, an eternal day breaking in on ordinary clock-time. So Easter Day is sometimes called the 8th day of the week: an irruption of final reality into our fallen and distorted Matrix-reality; moreso, Easter is an in-breaking into our hearts and minds of the Risen Christ: he came that we might believe, and be saved.
To the eyes of faith, everything is bright: the light of God is brighter than the sun, and eternal besides. Bright with spiritual liberty, forgiveness, possibility, newness of life, love for God and neighbour. It’s an interior brightness, and a gift of the Holy Spirit– it enables discernment, hope, faith, and looking at things and people with a mind to what might be, what God intends for each soul– including our own: union with himself, and redeemed living. The world sees beauty, wealth, status– or the lack of same. Faith sees a world turned upside-down (or, rather bright-side up, set to rights, rebuilt and restored), where the world cynically thinks it has everything and everyone already figured out.
In one past parish, Fr. Binks was honoured to serve millionaires, admirals, national-class business leaders– along with the elderly, the dying, folk from mobile homes, and the unremarkable, from the worldly perspective. In every case, it was about seeking to see them as God does, against my own prejudices or blindnesses, or the assumptions and ideas of others.
Jesus saw a leader of the Church, where the world saw in Simon Bar-Jonah (later Peter) a fisherman; the Saviour saw a Gospel-writer where the world judged Matthew as a tax-gouging collaborator; the Risen Lord even saw a potential Apostle to the Gentiles where the world saw in Saul (later, Paul) a zealous persecutor.
So later missionaries and ordinary Christians saw in their pagan neighbours– even the scary Goths or crazier Irish and others– possible brothers and sisters, and people unknowingly within the same love of God that had first embraced them– even loving their persecutors and torturers, singing and praying and asking forgiveness for their enemeies, before death opened to them the very gates of paradise. It’s all because of Easter, the eighth day, the new time of God’s Kingdom breaking in upon the world, and men’s hearts, whatever their background or outward worldly situation.

Cameras everywhere (though they don’t lower crime). Big laws over the tiniest things. Big Brother, Big Sister– nearly omnipotent moral busybodies eagerly seeking to do many and various things to other people for their own good.
If England– the home of modern democracy and law– can fall so low, the nanny-squads can come here, too. We must keep up the fight. ~

Proof? Colby Cosh recently Tweeted this: “Liberals aren’t ridiculous at all. In other news, the Huffington Post wants you to feel sorry for Somali pirates.” You know, because the Royal Navy was mean, and the so-called pirates were actually free-spirited economic rebels sticking it to The Man, and stuff. Then we hear about illegal dumping of nuclear material off part of the Somali coast, as if that were directly related.
Oddly enough in the paean of pity, we don’t hear about Liberal POTUS Clinton’s abandonment of this failed state, leaving it to wallow in banditry, poverty, Jihad, and piracy. Somalia– like many enfeebled nations– has had no real government, no “There” there, for international aid and relief supplies to actually make a difference, rather than enrich warlords and corrupt officials. Since this is Europe’s backyard, we might also ask the EUrocrats why nobody can be bothered to try and do something constructive.. too colonial? Too much trouble? Smelly darkies? Trying to keep Europe afloat?
Some guy called Travis Kavulla (a journalism fellow of the Phillips Foundation and 2008 Gates Scholar in African history.. what does he know?) says this:

Hmm.. not so easy to socially engineer, then.
Whilst we’re at it, would somebody please ask HuffPuff writer Mr. Hari what he thinks of the Democrat mortgage schemes. Why? Well, with the resulting financial crisis– and now all those trillions of money blowing around at the moment trying to do whatever it is the piratical Obama claims at the moment to be doing with them– it means the American economy is contracting somewhat, so the internationalist’s beloved cure-all of American $$$$ will not be as easy to get, for places like Somalia.. all because of Democratic social engineering. Liberals are often cruel and inhuman.. but they feel all smug about themselves and their ideas and opinions, which is what really counts, isn’t it?

~ AS WE WATCH the Obama Show, we have to recall that ‘They’ (the ruling & media class) are a minority. Their aim is to enthrall everybody to The Big Picture: the lie they seek to propagate and soak into everybody. Iny groups often have huge power: it’s the truth behind most conspiracy theories, and much of human history. Early in his career and before the Civil War he instigated, Julius Caesar plotted with a handful of others to take over the state by a mass-murder of the Senate and his opponents. It didn’t work out that time. Originally, the Nazi party was a handful of malcontents marching about in funny uniforms and leather shorts, led by some clown of a failed artist.
The thing about the Obama enthrallment is the man himself: he’s a man of few accomplishments, little hard experience, or practical background. Like Obama, Caesar was a good speaker– but he was also an accomplished warrior and tactician, of a noble family. Before he ruled Rome, he’d led seval armies and won all his wars and almost every battle, political and military. Hitler actually won a medal for bravery in the first World War, and endure the horrors of the front lines on the western Front. He had real political skills, and worked 9 years in the turmoil of Weimar politics to win a majority of votes. I come not to praise Caesar or Schicklegruber, but to point out that they had real skills, actual-world experience, and survived the many tests and oppositions of hugely complex reality.
Obama is fumbling, bluffing, making little-league mistakes though he’s at the top of the Big Leages of responsibility. What he can do is nonetheless convince us he’s all that and a bag of chips– count on our desire to wish and believe the best, deny what our lying eyes and ears are seeing, to give the guy a break, all that. Enthrall. Make us his happy little pod-people, help us all absorb and internalize his narcissism and his impervious reality-disconnected self-esteem. We can all be Little ‘Bamas!
Those who accuse critics of the POTUS of ‘Obama Derangement Syndrome’ have a point: we need to beware knee-jerkery for it’s own sake. So too, uncritical acceptance. That’s my point. We must– as responsible citiziens of the world, or America– hold Obama to the highest standard possible, of honesty and truth and the appearance of honesty and truth. It’s what he chose when he chose to run for the leadership of the free world. We do him and ourselves and our world and history no kindness to become o-bedient oPods, hating the unPods, and blindly obedient to worldly power. ~

Remember: materialism and atheism are ideas, applied to the evidence, and are not themselves scientifically provable. The list below is utterly amazing, and a reminder that those who consider themselves ‘rational atheists’ are operating against the facts and evidence of history, biography, and a lot of good science. How very dogmatic of them!
Atheism or materialist religion has embodied itself in Nazism, Communism, the modern eugenics and birth-control movement, dreams of world government, and messianic politics. The sad thing is that materialists seem to reject such experimental evidence and proof, and blame Christianity for such failings (despite the specific rejection of it by Stalin and Hitler and much modern socialism), and continue the old line “If only we could get rid of [ insert bad thing here ], then we would be free of [ insert alleged problems ] and be on the way to [ insert imagined paradise on earth here ].”
The Binks-Dad has high-level degrees in computer science, nuclear physics, an M.D, and a Pathologist’s training. He’s also a Christian. Go figure. From him I learned reasoning, a love for science, technology, music, and literature. And i’m a Christian. Reality is always more complicated and interesting than we suppose. ~
- Atlantis? Thera? Someplace Else?
~ MY GOOFY IDEAS— Even though you are used to pure truthsome brilliance from this blogger, I, too, have a few peculiar notions on various topics. (1) God’s working in nature to create/ change living beings (sometimes called ‘evolution’)? I think it’s a viral/ bacterial/ DNA thing. We just don’t know enough, really. (2) There may have been ancient civilizations for which we only know names. Really: if there were folks living in a town in Jericho c. 10 000BC, how much do we really know about that era? I’m not talking about aliens or anything, just that if civilization arose long ago, environmental collapse, plague, or some other collapse could have hidden much of it from us over the intervening years. Not having the history of those people doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. Atlantis may be a garbled remembrance, though some of that may also be ancient Thera 7 Crete as remembered by the Greeks. In any case, I’m not saying it makes much difference to us– only that we haven’t got the whole story. (3) Alien intelligent life probably exists. If God loves life, and if life arises wherever and whenever conditions allow, then simply by math alone, there must be many types of intelligent life out there. We might want to listen before we keep shouting: it’s a Roddenberry-ish Star Trek naivete that says we’re dealing with possible Vulcans rather than possible Klingons, or otherwise. If God has created other beings with rational souls, how does he save them/ impart his divine life to them? Has the Son been incarnate on other worlds? Or is part of our unique mission to preach the Word to the universe? Dunno. (4) I wish there were time-machines: not so I could interfere or ‘improve’ things, but so I could visit and learn history as it was. I’m not trying to build a temporal travel device, and I think if we ever did figure one out, it would be an incalculably bad thing. (5) I think 9/11 was an inside job: a failure of the Clinton administration to learn from the 1993 Trade Tower bombings to imagine and prepare for the likely. Monica, ego, scandal, stupid… we have to be able to imagine the very worst, even if we sincerely hope it never happens. Liberals are neurotic in the wrong way, and Democrats suppose their real enemies are Republicans, not those who want to conquer America, and destroy her influence for Good in the world (and enslave Democrats along with everyone else). I say ‘her’ because I think of America as the goddess Columbia— as traditionally depicted– and not as Uncle Sam, which is a soft-fascist invention of later years.
