~ SO WHILE THE AD/HD news-cycle has moved on (Teh Obama having spoken), the bodies are still piling up in in the pre-dug graves outside Tehran. Many are in hiding, others in dungeons, others being tortured and/ or paraded in front of Mullah-TV to denounce the pre-approved enemies-list of Zionists, agitators, anything and anybody else than the ones with bloody hands.
It would be all so lame and giggle-worthy, were it not for real suffering now firmly behind the clerical curtains once again– we’ve all seen too many tinpot types and their various Baghdad Bob regime mouthpieces telling us the official lies we’re not supposed to believe. Yet again, our blood-stained media has chosen to look the other way, back to bread/ circuses/ pop culture ‘essential’ news.
But it’s not back to usual: this was Twittered, and an ancient people like the Persians have very very long memories, having been around for 6000 years and more. Further– and according to the Prophet Joe Biden’s schedule– six months in, and Glorious Leader/ Messiah has indeed faced two world-scale international challenges to his largely autopilot foreign policy, and failed. A mix of mumbles, hitting false notes, a disturbing lack of real and fitting emotion, topped off with the usual pandering that has much of the world scrambling to protect itself, disinvest in the U.S., and nuke-up before the bad guys have all the toys.

The disturbing lack of apparent seriousness and bad PR from The Greatest President indicates a lack of deep-bottomed judgement and prudence, and a flippancy towards and within very serious times, matters, and choices. He’s supposed to lead the world, but thinks it appropriate to allow media to doggishly follow him around while he gets ice cream, goes golfing, and acts like a vacationing executive rather than the leader of a country in deep internal waters, and facing very serious external threats.
It’s like having a charming Inspector Clouseau in charge of the planet, without the dumb luck to save him.
Not With A Bang, But A Smirk
Look for Obama to take time off after the NORK nuking of San Diego and Honolulu to do a little shopping with the girls, then golf with the cronies– perhaps with a Kobe beef BBQ whilst he’s at it– even as he explains that his Schedule really is too tight for consulting with world leaders, since he’s busy with Stimulus II, and firing corporate executives at the moment, but he sincerely appreciates their concern, and thanks for the call.

~ WHILE POKING ABOUT on YouTube the day Michael Jackson died, I cam across an odd form of ‘modern tradition’ online: various assortments of wedding parties doing the ‘Thriller’ zombie dancing. Hmph.
Call me faux-anthropological, but it’s interesting to see descendants of mostly white Europeans doing such things, in the complete absence of whatever passed for happy celebratory dancing or music in the auld country having been passed on, or regarded as ‘old-fashioned’ or whatever. At one wedding I performed, the Scots-descended bride did some heart-breakingly joyful Scottish dancing for her husband during the reception dinner and after; other times, it’s been kilts and bagpipes for the occasion, but pretty much the same sorts of pop music and dancing at the reception.
It tells you something: our pop becomes the tradition, but the longing for a common something remains– albeit in the face of an anti-historical culture which worships the new, or at best, the old plundered for profit. Perhaps that’s the motivation behind Tartan Festivals & Renaissance Faires and thr suchlike: the old become new and present and non-embarrassing again.
Now that I’m more interested in genealogy and history than when I was married, I’d gladly wear the family tartan and hire a proper piper for a renewal of vows or somesuch– and see if we could hire some Scottish dancers (male & female) to liven up the afters.

The Film That Started It All
~ THANKS to whichever anonymous Binks-minion sent along the alleged ‘Final Cut’ of one of my Top-10 movies ever, Bladerunner. It came out when I was working as a movie usher (love them polyester suits!), so I saw (and fell in love) with the film, the soundtrack, the dialogue and effects, and the whole thing. It’s very nearly a perfect movie, despite the notoriously difficult course of actually creating and filming the movie.
25 years on, and this flick still holds its own amongst the pixellated wonders of the last few years. Even if you’ve not had the privilege, you’ve seen Bladerunner copied in dozens of futuristic, sci-fi, or other dystopian visions of the future, characters, music plot elements, all the rest. It was seminal, germinal, trend-making, all that. Even great movies in their own right such as Aliens, or The Matrix, owe much to Ridley Scott, Harrison Ford, and the rest of the talented folk behind one of the greatest modern movies ever.
Sadly, these days Harrison Ford is busy ruining Indiana Jones, bonking some younger woman, and starring in rubbish like “Absolute worst movie in years: Crossing Over“.
So thanks again from this grateful giftee to the gifter– I will enjoy it soon, as a reward to myself and the rest of the elves at Binks-HQ on a day off from blogging (yes, Teh Binks does take those, contrary to reports or suspicions). ~

Oh, and did we mention that these bugs eat coal and leave methan behind? Useful bugs, too. They may be behind the whole underground ecology of oil, gas, coal, and other elements we use for energy.

~ WHY ‘WEBELF’?.. because in the Anglican blogging days, I found things like ‘Web Sexton’ or ‘Cyber Deacon’ too precious and smug / twee by half. Why ‘Binky’? It’s not the pacifier or blanket, just a small harmless-sounding name for someone actually good, but a little dangerous. Blame Sid Meier’s original ‘Pirates!‘, where I used it along with other similarly lame & amusing names, instead of ‘Cap’n DeathBlood McHate’ or some other such. So originally, Binky was a pirate-name, along the lines of The Dread Pirate Roberts.
The elf-thing kicked in when the easily bored boss of this insanity project started to add a massive HQ, staff, departments, and other imaginary elements. There have been two other actual elves in the computer line– Doug Elf and Mike Elf– the latter actually creating under the ‘CaNN- Classical Anglican Net News’ logo a server-base hosting 25 blogs, a number of e-mail and chat thingies, all in aid of traditionally-minded Anglican communications, news, and connectivity.

After years of 10k+ daily visits, we endured a series of severe hackings from Episcopal Church HQs (God knows who you are!) and for some other reasons, all that CaNNet stuff was wrapped up.. and– for unfortunate technical reasons, much of the older content from Binks is offline, our famous Anglican.tk (that’s Tokelau) url having been hacked as well, and now memory-holed except via the Wayback Machine, and Teh Bink’s exceptionally spotty memory.
Backwards Into The Future!
Now Free Mark Steyn/ Canuckistan is back to the Elf Hisself, with tips and input from all the blogs we link to, and some fellow bloggers. Of course it LOOKS like a group-effort, but that’s only because of the immense talent and large amount of linkery involved.
Funnily enough, some folks have assumed this was some sort of giant operation, and thus part of various nefarious conspiracies of their chosen paranoid fantasies. Hence the Canadian Anglican establishment, some Muslims, some in the American Episcopalians establishment, to mention a few. “OK. Um– Yes.. you are being mocked and tormented by hordes of imaginary elves.. on the interwebs, you say?”
The specific kind of elf? Not sure: the ancient little people, partly (good, if not safe).. some Santa elvery in there.. along with Special Ops dangerous elves.. with a dose of LOTR elvishness. Plus a saucy sprinkling of rebel/ pirate/ scots wha’ hae to remind our foes and would-be friends that we aren’t going anywhere, and will gladly serve as your worst nightmare should you up and deserve it. Thus, Teh Binks is apparently “one of the cool kids” now, according to our being on the impecunious Can-blogger 1200 List. Never was much of a cool kid, except for grade 5– coolness as a grownup is much cooler and more enduring, of course.
